Questions Answered.

Everything law enforcement agencies, attorneys, forensic teams, and courts need to know before deploying SceneLink.

  • No. Your department's own forensic photographers will be trained and certified as SceneLink Technicians. Once certified, your team operates the technology independently. SceneLink does not need to be present at every scene.

Your certified technicians will be equipped with everything they need to capture, upload, and begin working with a scene immediately upon arrival.

  • We schedule an on-site training day at your department. Our team hand-delivers all equipment and conducts a full training session for all relevant staff. Trainings typically lasting 6 to 8 hours including certification testing.

During training, we create a mock crime scene so technicians get real hands-on capture experience before ever touching a live scene. We provide lunch and breaks throughout the day.

After certifications are issued, technicians receive access to our online refresher course covering the platform in depth. Certification is valid for one year and requires annual renewal to stay current with platform updates.

🔒Data Security & Access Control

  • After reconstruction, the scene is delivered via secure hyperlink to the assigned detective. Access requires both the unique link and a password issued by forensic technicians — protected by 256-bit military-grade encryption.

The data is owned by the assigned department. Prosecution and defense counsel may request access through traditional chains of command — no unauthorized party can access a scene without being explicitly granted both the link and the password.

Viewing access and editing access are completely separate credential systems — a viewer cannot modify the scene environment.

  • All scans are stored on SceneLink's secure U.S.-based servers. The data is legally owned by the assigned department — SceneLink serves as the secure hosting provider, not the data owner.

Data is non-transferrable and must remain on SceneLink's servers per contract terms. Departments pay an annual hosting and storage fee — pricing is locked for the duration of the contract with no surprise cost increases.

🗺️Scene Types & Limitations

  • SceneLink captures all indoor and outdoor environments regardless of size or severity — from private residences to large commercial spaces, open-air crime scenes, vehicle interiors, and public spaces.

The only current limitation is underwater environments, which cannot be captured with existing equipment. In every other situation, the guiding principle is simple: if your forensics team needs to be called in to document it, SceneLink should be with them.

Turnaround Time & Timeline

  • Following the final scan upload from the scene, most reconstructions are delivered back to the assigned detective within 2 to 3 hours. Larger environments — such as a stadium or large commercial complex — will take longer than a private residence or single-room scene.

In practical terms: a scene captured in the morning is typically a fully walkable, evidence-ready environment before end of shift — the same day.

📁Cold Cases & Post-Cleanup Scenes

  • SceneLink has limited but still meaningful use in post-cleanup scenarios. If the structure of the space remains intact, a current scan of the environment can be created and existing photographs, reports, and evidence can be pinned within it to provide spatial context to what occurred there.

The result is not a pure scene — it reflects the space as it exists now, not as it was at the time of the incident. However, for cold cases or situations where early capture wasn't possible, it still provides significantly more spatial clarity than photograph arrays alone.

The strongest recommendation is always early capture — ideally before scene cleanup begins. This is when SceneLink delivers its fullest value.

📡Equipment & Capture Process

  • Technicians are provided a SceneLink Camera, a tablet, and a camera stand — all stored in a portable, easy-to-carry case. No complex setup is required. The only operational requirement is that devices are adequately charged before deployment.

Each individual scan takes approximately 20 seconds from start to finish. Total capture time varies depending on the overall footprint of the scene — a private residence captures significantly faster than a large commercial space.

  • To preserve the integrity of the final rendering, all personnel who do not wish to appear in the scan must be temporarily cleared from the area being captured at that moment. This is consistent with established best practices for preventing crime scene contamination.

Capture happens in segments — personnel can return between individual scans. The process is designed to integrate naturally into existing forensic workflow, not disrupt it.

⚖️Courtroom Presentation & Admissibility

  • No special equipment is required. SceneLink is displayed via a standard TV monitor using any internet-connected computer or tablet and an HDMI connection — both of which are standard in most courtrooms today. No headsets, no VR equipment, nothing specialized.

Viewing requires only a hyperlink and a password. The presenting attorney opens the scene, enters credentials, and displays it live to the judge and jury — exactly as they would any digital exhibit.

  • Like any evidence, SceneLink can be subject to challenge — however, the platform itself is simply a digital scan of a physical environment at a 1:1 scale ratio, accurate to within an inch. It generates nothing new — it shows only what was already there.

SceneLink functions as a spatial presentation tool — no different in legal standing than PowerPoint or Canva used to display exhibits. The platform includes built-in measurement capabilities for rooms, spaces, and individual objects, meeting or exceeding traditional documentation standards.

The primary point of legal contention in any case remains the supporting evidence — the reports, footage, and findings pinned inside the scene — not the environment itself.

💼Pricing & Contract Options

  • SceneLink operates on a flat onboarding fee — regardless of how many personnel a department wants certified — followed by an annual subscription that covers unlimited scans. There are no per-case or per-scan charges.

Contract payment options include a single paid-in-full option for the full contract length, or annual payments with a small finance charge. Pricing is locked for the duration of the contract — no surprise increases.

SceneLink does not offer direct financial assistance, however numerous local, state, and federal law enforcement infrastructure grants are available that departments may apply for to offset costs. We are happy to provide documentation to support grant applications.

  • In the event of a lapsed payment or contract expiration, SceneLink archives all existing scans for two years at no charge before any deletion occurs. Departments are notified well in advance of any action taken.

It is important to note that SceneLink scans are a spatial presentation of documented evidence — they are not the actual physical evidence itself. Deletion of a scan does not constitute deletion of case evidence, which remains in the department's possession through traditional channels.

After the two-year archive period, deleted scans are not recoverable. We strongly recommend maintaining active contracts for any cases still in active litigation.

🛡️Error Prevention & Quality Control

  • The SceneLink camera includes built-in real-time guidance for technicians. If the camera is moved more than 10 to 12 feet from the last scan point, a pop-up alert notifies the technician before the gap can affect the reconstruction. If the camera is off-balance or improperly positioned, a second alert explains the issue and guides the technician to correct it before capturing.

If an area is missed during the initial scan, it can be added to the scene as long as the original tablet hosting the raw rendering is available. In the rare event of a system freeze, a two-minute camera reset resolves the issue with no data loss.

The technology is built to coach the technician in the field — reducing human error without requiring perfection.

🚀Updates & Roadmap

  • All active clients automatically receive the latest public version of SceneLink technology at no additional cost — we call this SceneLink Forever. There are no upgrade fees, no new contracts required, and no department gets left on an outdated version.

When new equipment rolls out, SceneLink ships the updated hardware directly to the department with proper packaging for safe return of previous equipment. Departments have 30 days to return outgoing equipment after receiving the new kit.

As new capabilities are released, departments are notified and training is made available — either in person, virtually, or through the online platform. Staying current is part of what your contract covers.
